The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Akaninyine Eretus and 35-year-old Uduak Essien, are currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Mr. Okon Ikon and another victim identified simply as Okonkon.
The arrests followed a missing-person report that triggered a coordinated search operation involving security personnel and local residents.
Missing Person Report Sparks Search Operation
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the investigation began on May 28, 2026, when a resident, Mmawan Okon, reported at the Creek Town Police Post that his father, Mr. Okon Ikon, had gone missing.
The report immediately raised concerns among family members and community leaders, who initiated efforts to locate the missing man.
As inquiries continued, information allegedly emerged indicating that the victim may have been killed and that his remains could be found in a nearby bush.
Joint Security Team Moves Into Action
Acting on the information received, a combined team made up of police officers, military personnel and community youths launched a coordinated search operation in the area.
During the exercise, operatives reportedly located and arrested a male suspect believed to have links to the disappearance.
Police said the suspect was discovered in a hideout within the bush and was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
The arrest marked a major breakthrough in the investigation and led to further discoveries that deepened the mystery surrounding the case.
Discovery of Human Remains
Investigators disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect directed security operatives to a location where the severed head of the missing victim, Mr. Okon Ikon, was recovered.
The gruesome discovery intensified the investigation and prompted an expanded search of the surrounding area.
Police said further searches uncovered the remains of another deceased individual identified as Okonkon, buried at a separate location within the same bush.
The recovery of two bodies from the area has raised fresh questions about the motive behind the killings and whether additional persons may have been involved.
