Olu Of Warri’s Reign Restores Glory, Promotes Peace, Unity — Oborevwori Sanwo-Olu, Hannatu Musawa, Others Attend Olu’s Fifth Coronation Anniversary
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the five-year reign of His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, as a period of renewed glory, peace-building, unity and remarkable progress for the Itsekiri people, Warri and Delta State.
Oborevwori stated this on Friday while speaking at the fifth coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, where he commended the monarch for his leadership, commitment to peace and support for initiatives aimed at advancing development in Warri and the state.
The Governor described Ogiame Atuwatse III as a cerebral monarch, peace-builder and exemplary leader whose passion for development extended beyond the Itsekiri nation to the entire Delta State.
“The Olu is a cerebral monarch, a peace-builder and an exemplary leader — a man of grace who leads from the front. He has an undying passion for the progress of not just Warri but the entire Delta State,” Oborevwori said.
He also acknowledged the monarch’s support for his administration, noting that the Olu had consistently demonstrated interest in the development agenda of the state government.
“I want to place it on record that the Olu has taken more than a passing interest in my administration. You have shown your love and support for this administration,” he stated.
Oborevwori recalled the Olu’s public support for the President and his administration during a gathering hosted by the Itsekiri nation, describing the monarch’s position as courageous given his responsibility as a father to all.
The Governor also highlighted the Olu’s support for infrastructure development, recalling his participation in the inspection of the ongoing construction of the Ode-Itsekiri Road.
According to him, the road project, which includes more than 15 bridges, has been completed and will soon be commissioned.
He noted that the monarch’s efforts to showcase the completed road had helped demonstrate the impact of the administration’s infrastructure development agenda.
Oborevwori recalled seeing a video of the monarch riding a scooter on a completed section of the road, describing the gesture as significant because it showcased a project in an area previously considered difficult to access.
The Governor said the fifth coronation anniversary was therefore not only a celebration of a traditional milestone but also an opportunity to reflect on five years of impactful leadership and the monarch’s contributions to peace and development.
Oborevwori used the occasion to appeal to all ethnic nationalities in Warri to preserve the peace and unity that had characterised their coexistence over the years.
He noted that the different ethnic groups had lived together peacefully for centuries and urged them to sustain the tradition.
The Governor called on residents and stakeholders to shun inflammatory statements and divisive tendencies capable of undermining peace and stability in Warri and Delta State.
Among the dignitaries at the celebration were Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; Senator Joel-Onowakpo; Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; a representative of the Minister of Aviation; members of the Delta State Executive Council; service commanders; traditional rulers from across the country; and other distinguished guests.
In his remarks, titled “Speech from the Throne,” the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, attributed the achievements recorded during his five-year reign to God, describing them as manifestations of divine grace.
The monarch said the impact of the traditional institution under his reign extended beyond the Itsekiri nation, adding that he remained committed to promoting excellence in Nigeria’s traditional institutions and preserving the country’s cultural heritage.
The Olu expressed appreciation to Governors Oborevwori and Sanwo-Olu, government officials, traditional rulers, groups and communities for honouring the anniversary and supporting the throne with their prayers and goodwill.
