Oborevwori’s Tourism Drive Positions Delta as Emerging Hospitality Hub

Delta’s Hospitality Sector Gains Momentum
STAKEHOLDERS in Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality industry have commended Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for policies they say are transforming the state into a leading destination for conferences and leisure.
The commendation came during the 2026 Annual Hospitality and Catering Professionals Conference organised by the Nigeria Hospitality and Catering Institute in Asaba.
Conference Highlights Growing Industry Confidence
Representing the governor, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Darlington Nnamdi Ijeh, noted that the choice of Asaba as host city reflects growing national confidence in Delta’s hospitality ecosystem.
He described the conference as both recognition of progress and an opportunity to consolidate gains in the sector.
Policy Direction and Strategic Investments
According to Ijeh, deliberate investments and policy reforms by the state government have improved infrastructure, service delivery, and investor confidence in the hospitality industry.
He stressed that Delta has increasingly become a preferred destination for regional events, business gatherings, and tourism-related activities.
“The growth is visible, and Delta is now standing tall as a destination for conferences and hospitality,” he said.
Capacity Building as a Growth Driver
The commissioner emphasised that beyond infrastructure, human capacity development remains critical to sustaining progress in the sector.
He urged professionals to embrace innovation, training, and leadership development as key drivers of long-term growth and competitiveness.
Regional Influence and Knowledge Sharing
Ijeh disclosed that Delta’s tourism model is already influencing neighbouring states, with officials from other regions seeking insights into its strategies.
Participants at the conference, including academics and industry operators, also commended the state government for creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Outlook: Sustaining Growth Through Collaboration
The conference featured panel discussions, lectures, and networking sessions focused on sustainability, resilience, and innovation in hospitality.
Experts say continued collaboration between government and industry players will be essential in sustaining Delta’s emergence as a major tourism hub.
