Oborevwori Commends Police Over Arrest Of Suspected Cable Vandals In Delta
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Delta State Police Command for the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and the recovery of stolen cables, describing the operation as a significant breakthrough in the fight against the destruction of critical public infrastructure.
The governor, in a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, praised the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, and officers of the command for their swift response and sustained efforts to combat crime, particularly the vandalism of government facilities.
Oborevwori also applauded members of the local vigilante group who assisted the police during the operation, saying their collaboration with security agencies demonstrated the importance of community participation in crime prevention.
According to the governor, protecting public infrastructure remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that investments in roads, electricity and other public facilities must not be undermined by criminal activities.
He noted that the successful operation reflected the government’s determination to safeguard public assets and ensure that development projects continue to benefit residents across the state.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Kwale Police Station, acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with a local vigilante group, stormed the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road on June 25, 2026, where suspected vandals were allegedly dismantling electric cables.
The police said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the security team but were apprehended during the operation.
One of the suspects reportedly sustained injuries while attempting to escape and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the second suspect remains in police custody.
The suspects were identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34. Police also recovered vandalised electric cables believed to have been removed from public infrastructure.
Governor Oborevwori urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and leading to the arrest of offenders.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security while protecting public investments across Delta State.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned individuals involved in vandalising government infrastructure and other public assets to desist or face the full weight of the law.
He assured residents that the command would sustain its operations against criminal elements and appealed to members of the public to continue volunteering useful information that would assist the police in preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.
