Oborevwori Approves 13th-Month Salary, Boosts Rewards For Delta Civil Servants

Governor Announces New Welfare Measures
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the payment of a 13th-month salary for civil servants, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and strengthening the state’s public service.
The governor announced the approval during the 2026 Public Service Week Dinner and Awards Night in Asaba, where he also unveiled a threefold increase in cash prizes for outstanding public servants.
According to him, investing in workers remains essential to achieving efficient service delivery and sustaining the reform objectives of his administration’s MORE Agenda.
Focus on Motivation and Productivity
Governor Oborevwori described the annual event as an opportunity to celebrate excellence, evaluate the progress of the public service and encourage greater commitment among government employees.
He said the 2026 theme, “Reforms, Resilience and Results,” reflects his administration’s belief that meaningful reforms can only succeed when public servants are adequately motivated, properly equipped and supported through policies that enhance their welfare and professional development.
The governor commended civil servants for their dedication to implementing government programmes across various sectors, describing them as critical partners in delivering development to residents of the state.
Commitment to Workers’ Welfare
Reiterating his administration’s pro-worker policy, Oborevwori said requests relating to employees’ welfare receive prompt consideration.
He noted that the state’s workforce plays a central role in the implementation of government programmes and assured workers that their welfare would remain a top priority.
The governor also disclosed that the salaries of the Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries had been increased by more than 50 per cent as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership within the public service.
Housing and Institutional Support
Beyond salary improvements, the governor announced that the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters had been completed and would soon be commissioned after the completion of access roads.
He also confirmed that official vehicles had been procured for the 11 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.
Oborevwori further assured workers that his administration would continue pursuing affordable housing initiatives through practical policies and strategic partnerships designed to improve access to home ownership.
Call for Integrity and Professionalism
Addressing senior public servants, the governor urged Permanent Secretaries and Directors to uphold integrity, transparency and due process in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He described Permanent Secretaries as the institutional memory of government, noting that while political office holders may change, the public service remains the engine of continuity in governance.
He encouraged them to safeguard the integrity of the civil service and ensure that government institutions continue to function efficiently.
Outstanding Workers Recognised
Earlier, the State Head of Service, Dr. Mininim Oseji, described the Public Service Week as an important platform for reflection, professional development and recognition of excellence.
She commended the governor for supporting reforms aimed at improving staff welfare and morale while urging civil servants to embrace innovation, professionalism and accountability.
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding workers, including Mr. Abuga Dennis of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, who emerged as Best Civil Servant Farmer, alongside Chinwe Atisele of the Hospitals Management Board and Mr. Reuben Udolu of the Ministry of Women Affairs, who were recognised for exemplary punctuality and dedication to duty.
