Nigeria Revives CAF A-Licence Coaching Course After Nine-Year Hiatus

NIGERIA has resumed its CAF A-Licence coaching course after a nine-year break, bringing 25 top-flight coaches together for intensive training in Abuja.
The two-module programme began in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday. It marks Nigeria’s return to the CAF A-Licence Convention after years without hosting the elite coaching course.
Participants include coaches from the country’s national teams, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).
The first module will run for five days. Organisers will hold the second and final module next month.
Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, is expected to officially declare the first module open on Wednesday.
The programme represents an important step in Nigeria’s effort to improve elite coaching standards. The CAF A-Licence provides advanced training for coaches working at the highest levels of domestic and international football.
Although Nigeria stopped organising the A-Licence course for nine years, the NFF maintained other coaching programmes. The federation continued to run D, C and B-Licence courses during the period.
It also introduced an exclusive CAF C-Licence programme for women in 2025. The course featured three modules delivered over three months.
Now, the return of the A-Licence programme gives experienced Nigerian coaches another opportunity to strengthen their technical knowledge.
Through the theoretical and practical sessions, participants will gain advanced skills required to work effectively at elite level.
The NFF will hope the renewed programme produces a stronger pool of qualified coaches for Nigerian clubs and national teams.
