Nigeria @66: Oborevwori, Azinge Seek Peace, Unity, Hope For Nation

GOVERNOR Sheriff Francis Oborevwori of Delta State and the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, have used Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary thanksgiving to call for peace, unity, patriotism and responsible service to the people.
The leaders made the call during a thanksgiving service held at Living Faith Church, Ibusa Road, Asaba, on Sunday 27 September 2026.
Traditional rulers, members of the executive, legislature and judiciary, religious leaders and other Deltans attended the service to commemorate the anniversary and give thanks for Nigeria’s continued unity.
Addressing the gathering, Oborevwori emphasised the importance of wisdom in leadership and everyday affairs.
He maintained that peace remained a foundation for meaningful development, saying no nation could achieve sustainable progress without stability.
The governor therefore called on Nigerians to keep praying for peace across the country.
He described prayer as an important investment in the nation’s future and urged citizens to remain persistent in seeking divine intervention.
“Praying for the nation is a powerful investment that pays huge dividends,” Oborevwori said.
Beyond prayer, the governor also emphasised the responsibilities that come with public office.
He reminded civil servants that they were public servants whose primary responsibility was to serve the people.
Oborevwori urged them to treat citizens equally and with love, irrespective of social standing or official position.
He said public servants should not regard their positions as privileges for personal benefit but as opportunities to serve the state and its people.
The governor also pointed to the role of community stakeholders in sustaining peace in Delta State.
According to him, traditional rulers, Presidents-General, community leaders and other stakeholders have contributed to the relative peace in the state.
He said such collective efforts, alongside the wisdom granted by God, remained important to the stability and development of the state.
Meanwhile, Azinge expressed confidence that Nigeria could overcome its present difficulties and realise its potential.
The traditional ruler urged Nigerians to maintain hope and continue praying for the country.
“We are all hopeful and very confident that the future is bright for Nigeria and there is light at the end of the tunnel,” Azinge said.
He expressed the belief that continued prayers would help the nation reach its desired milestones and concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.
Earlier, Pastor Samuel Joe, who delivered the sermon, focused on national unity and Nigeria’s destiny.
He said God remained involved in the affairs of the nation and stressed that righteousness and love were necessary for Nigeria to fulfil its potential.
The pastor’s message complemented the calls from the governor and traditional ruler for Nigerians to remain committed to the country.
The thanksgiving therefore combined prayers with appeals for responsible citizenship, peaceful coexistence and service to the common good.
The gathering featured traditional rulers, members of the Delta State Executive Council, legislators, judicial officers, religious leaders and other stakeholders who joined in commemorating Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
