New DESOPADEC Lodge Strengthens NYSC Presence In Ndokwa East

Commission Hands Over Key Welfare Project
THE Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has completed the construction of a modern NYSC Corps members’ lodge in Akarai Obodo, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, marking another milestone in its drive to improve public infrastructure across oil-producing communities.
The project is designed to provide quality accommodation for Corps members deployed to the area while supporting the broader objective of creating an enabling environment for national service and grassroots development.
Focus on Community Needs
Inspecting the completed project, DESOPADEC Governing Board Member for the Ndokwa ethnic nationality, Dr. Charles Olisa, praised the standard of construction and described the lodge as a direct response to requests from community stakeholders.
He said the commission remains committed to identifying critical development needs through continuous engagement with local communities and translating those needs into practical projects.
Olisa also applauded the contractor for delivering the facility in line with approved specifications and within the agreed timeframe.
Development Beyond Physical Structures
According to the board member, the project reflects DESOPADEC’s broader vision of combining infrastructure delivery with human capital development.
He noted that improved accommodation would enhance the welfare, security and productivity of Corps members serving in the area, allowing them to contribute more effectively to education, healthcare and community-based initiatives.
He added that the initiative complements the Delta State Government’s M.O.R.E. Agenda by promoting inclusive growth through strategic investments in public infrastructure.
Pipeline of Ongoing Projects
Olisa revealed that the commission is also nearing completion of several other projects across Ndokwa East.
These include an assembly hall for Oduga Secondary School in Ushie, perimeter fencing for Aboh Grammar School, and an ultra-modern civic centre at Agwetiti.
He reaffirmed DESOPADEC’s commitment to sustaining development interventions that improve the quality of life in communities within its mandate.
Strengthening National Service
The completion of the NYSC lodge is expected to ease accommodation challenges for Corps members serving in Akarai Obodo and surrounding communities.
The facility is also expected to encourage greater participation in community development programmes, improve service conditions and reinforce DESOPADEC’s role in delivering infrastructure that supports both youth development and sustainable community growth.
