NBBF Shifts League Tip-Off To 16th May As 20 Teams Confirmed

THE Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has officially rescheduled the start of the 2026 Nigeria Men’s Premier Basketball League to 16th May.
The adjustment comes just days after the initial 12th May date, reflecting last-minute structural changes approved by the League Management Committee (LMC).
Expansion Drives Schedule Change
According to NBBF Secretary Amina Amanchi, the shift became necessary following the inclusion of additional teams into the league.
The expansion means the league will now feature 20 clubs, increasing competition and widening the talent pool across the country’s top-tier basketball competition.
Two-Conference Format Retained
The league will maintain its dual-conference structure, split into the Atlantic and Savannah divisions.
Teams in the Savannah Conference include:
- Nigeria Customs
- Nile University
- Kano Pillars
- Bauchi Nets
- Plateau Peaks
- Gboko City Chiefs
- Gombe Bulls
- Niger Potters
- 313 Warriors
- Aso Sky Hawks
The Atlantic Conference will feature:
- Rivers Hoopers
- Maktown Flyers
- Comets
- Hoops and Reads
- Kwara Falcons
- Athletes For Peace
- Edo Beads
- Raptors
- Coal City Blazers
- Confluence Kings
Transfer Fees Introduced
The federation also announced a ₦150,000 domestic transfer fee for players moving between clubs.
The proceeds will be shared between the releasing club and the NBBF, a move aimed at strengthening club finances and improving player management systems.
