Lions Clubs International Celebrates Oborevwori’s Developmental Strides In Delta

Asaba Hosts International Humanitarian Convention
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has received the Icon of Leadership Excellence Award from Lions Clubs International in recognition of what the organisation described as outstanding leadership and developmental achievements across the state.
The award was presented during a courtesy visit to Government House, Asaba, by officials of Lions Club International District 404 Nigeria, led by the Multiple Council Chairperson, Dr. Ibrahim Jide Bello, ahead of the organisation’s 19th Multiple Convention scheduled to hold in Asaba.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Bello said the choice of Asaba as the host city for the convention reflected growing confidence in Delta State’s security, infrastructure, accessibility, and peaceful environment under the current administration.
According to him, the state has witnessed improvements that made it suitable for hosting a major humanitarian gathering involving delegates from different parts of Nigeria and beyond.
Recognition for Development and Stability
The Lions Club delegation commended the governor for creating what it described as an enabling atmosphere for investment, social activities, and humanitarian engagements.
Dr. Bello noted that the organisation considered several factors before selecting Asaba for the convention, including transportation networks, accommodation facilities, security arrangements, and urban infrastructure.
He stated that the award was not only a recognition of political leadership but also an acknowledgment of policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
The organisation further praised the administration’s efforts in healthcare delivery, social support initiatives, and security enhancement, saying the state’s developmental direction aligns with the humanitarian principles promoted by Lions Club International globally.
Lions Club Highlights Humanitarian Mission
The delegation also used the occasion to outline the global humanitarian activities of Lions Clubs International, which has operated for more than a century with millions of members across over 200 countries and geographical areas.
According to Dr. Bello, the organisation’s interventions span healthcare, eye care services, childhood cancer support, environmental sustainability, hunger relief, disaster response, mental health awareness, youth development, and education.
He disclosed that the organisation intends to deepen its humanitarian footprint in Delta State through support for healthcare institutions and community-based projects, including interventions targeted at Warri Central Hospital.
Oborevwori Commends Humanitarian Contributions
Responding, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed appreciation for the recognition and commended Lions Club International for its longstanding contributions to humanity.
The governor specifically acknowledged the organisation’s role in healthcare delivery through eye clinics, medical outreaches, and support services that have benefited many communities across the state.
He described the hosting of the convention in Asaba as another indication that Delta State continues to gain national recognition as a peaceful and investment-friendly destination.
According to him, large-scale gatherings such as the Lions convention would stimulate tourism, hospitality, and commercial activities within the state capital and surrounding areas.
MORE Agenda and Humanitarian Partnerships
Governor Oborevwori said the values of compassion, service, and integrity promoted by the Lions Club align with the objectives of his administration’s MORE Agenda, which focuses on meaningful development opportunities and improved living standards for residents.
