Jibunoh Donates Historic Artifacts To Asagba Museum

CHIEF Dr. Newton C. Jibunoh has donated a collection of artifacts and books to the Asagba Museum in Asaba. The presentation was made to the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, at the royal palace on Monday. The items will form part of the museum’s permanent collection.
The monarch described the donation as a major contribution to preserving the history and identity of the Asaba people. He said the collection would help safeguard the community’s heritage for future generations. He noted that the museum would serve as a centre for education, tourism and cultural pride.
Asagba Azinge said the artifacts and books would be carefully catalogued and displayed. He added that young people would benefit from learning about the history and traditions of Asaba Kingdom through the collection.
Speaking during the presentation, Chief Jibunoh praised the pace of development in Asaba under the leadership of the Asagba. He described the transformation recorded since the monarch’s ascension to the throne as remarkable. He commended the royal leadership for promoting the cultural and historical identity of the kingdom.
The renowned conservationist also urged traditional rulers to advocate for museums to be located within royal palaces rather than managed directly by government institutions. He argued that traditional institutions are the rightful custodians of cultural heritage, while government should provide oversight and support.
Jibunoh expressed confidence that the Asagba Museum would become an important destination for researchers, historians and visitors interested in Anioma culture and history. Palace chiefs, members of the Asagba Executive Council and other cultural stakeholders witnessed the presentation.
