DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday joined the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, senior government officials, political leaders and traditional rulers to pay their last respects to Chief Daniel Okoro, a respected elder statesman and pioneer Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okpe Local Government Area.
The funeral service, held at Oyenke Inland in Okpe Local Government Area, drew a large gathering of political associates, community leaders, family members and well-wishers who came to celebrate the remarkable life and enduring contributions of the late community leader.
Chief Okoro passed away at the age of 116, leaving behind a legacy that spanned decades of community service, political leadership and grassroots mobilisation.
Celebrating a Legacy of Service
Tributes at the funeral reflected Chief Okoro’s reputation as a respected leader who played a significant role in the political development of Okpe Local Government Area.
As the pioneer chairman of the PDP in the council area, he was remembered for helping to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and for mentoring younger political leaders over the years.
Many mourners described him as a bridge-builder whose commitment to community development and public service earned him widespread respect across political and traditional institutions.
Cleric Urges Focus on Eternal Values
Delivering the funeral sermon, Pastor Chinaza Onyenkwere of Living Faith Church, Okwabude, reminded the congregation that earthly achievements are temporary and urged Christians to place greater emphasis on spiritual values.
Preaching from Matthew 6:33, the cleric encouraged believers to seek God’s kingdom and righteousness above material possessions, noting that a life devoted to faith ultimately outlives worldly accomplishments.
He observed that death remains an unavoidable reality for every individual and called on worshippers to live each day with eternity in view.
Comfort for the Bereaved
Pastor Onyenkwere urged members of the Okoro family and the wider community to draw strength from God during their period of mourning.
He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and for divine comfort, wisdom and strength for the family.
The funeral concluded with tributes celebrating Chief Daniel Okoro’s exceptional longevity, unwavering service to his community and lasting contributions to political and social development in Okpe Kingdom.
