GOMEP Commends Oborevwori’s 50-Bus Transport Initiative
Media Guild Endorses Delta’s Public Transport Initiative
THE Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has applauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for introducing a 50-bus public transportation initiative aimed at improving mobility across the state.
The organisation described the programme as a significant intervention that reflects the administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance and practical socio-economic development.
The commendation was conveyed in a letter dated 6 July 2026, signed by the Guild’s National President, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti.
Initiative Seen as Investment in Economic Mobility
According to GOMEP-NG, the transport scheme extends beyond the provision of buses, representing a strategic investment in public infrastructure designed to improve accessibility, reduce transportation costs and stimulate economic activities.
The Guild noted that efficient transportation remains a critical driver of productivity, enabling workers, students, traders and entrepreneurs to move more easily while supporting broader economic growth.
It stated that the intervention aligns with efforts to improve the daily lives of residents by making transportation safer, more reliable and affordable.
MORE Agenda Reflected in Practical Governance
The media organisation said the initiative demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s resolve to translate the objectives of the administration’s MORE Agenda into measurable benefits for citizens.
According to the Guild, development initiatives become meaningful when they directly address everyday challenges faced by the people, including transportation, which remains essential to commerce, education and public services.
It described the bus deployment as evidence of a governance approach focused on delivering practical solutions capable of producing immediate and long-term socio-economic benefits.
Recognition of Digital Media’s Expanding Role
Beyond commending the transport programme, GOMEP-NG highlighted the growing influence of digital media in Nigeria’s information ecosystem.
The Guild observed that online newspapers, digital television platforms, internet radio stations, podcasts, streaming services and news websites now constitute major channels through which millions of Nigerians receive information and engage in public discourse.
It noted that digital journalism has become increasingly important in promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance.
Commitment to Responsible Journalism
The Guild reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical journalism through factual, balanced and development-oriented reporting.
It pledged continued support for initiatives that contribute to national development while maintaining professional standards that encourage credibility, accuracy and public trust.
The organisation also reiterated its readiness to continue highlighting policies and programmes that positively impact communities while encouraging accountability across all levels of government.
