NSC Secures Free Access to Glasgow 2026 Games
NIGERIANS will be able to follow Team Nigeria’s campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow live and at no cost after the National Sports Commission (NSC) secured a free-to-air broadcast partnership with What Network.
Under the agreement, What Network has obtained the free-to-air broadcast rights for Nigeria, allowing fans across the country to watch the Games on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), TV Continental (TVC) and other participating terrestrial television stations. The competition will also be streamed on multiple digital platforms, expanding access for viewers nationwide.
Boosting Support for Team Nigeria
Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, described the partnership as a major step towards making international sporting events more accessible to Nigerians while strengthening public support for the country’s athletes.
According to him, the collaboration will ensure that every Nigerian has the opportunity to follow Team Nigeria’s performances live, celebrate the athletes’ achievements and inspire a new generation of sports talents.
Broadcast coverage will begin with the opening ceremony on July 23 and continue throughout the Games, offering comprehensive live coverage of all events.
Highlights Beyond Live Competition
In addition to live broadcasts, viewers will enjoy a daily two-hour highlights programme featuring medal-winning performances, exclusive athlete interviews, expert analysis and behind-the-scenes moments from Glasgow.
The initiative aligns with the Commission’s broader objective of promoting Nigerian sports and giving athletes greater visibility on the international stage.
Nigeria is expected to parade a formidable squad, including world record holder Tobi Amusan, sprint star Kayinsola Ajayi, shot put specialist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and para powerlifting champion Folashade Oluwafemiayo, alongside competitors in boxing, cycling, swimming, weightlifting and para sports.
