‘Fully Open & Operational’: South Sudan Embassy Rejects Rent Arrears Claims

THE South Sudanese Embassy in Nairobi has denied reports that it was shut down over unpaid rent, insisting that the diplomatic mission remains fully open and operational.

The embassy addressed the reports in a statement issued on 13 August, describing claims of a closure as unverified and misleading.

According to the mission, the reports do not reflect its current operational status.

However, the embassy acknowledged that some consular and administrative services have recently experienced minor disruptions.

It attributed the situation to a localized power outage caused by a sudden electrical surge.

The embassy said technical teams were already working to restore normal services and minimise the disruption.

It stressed that the temporary service challenges should not be interpreted as a shutdown of the diplomatic mission.

The statement also rejected claims that the embassy had closed because of outstanding rent arrears.

According to the mission, such reports created a false impression about the status of its operations in Nairobi.

The embassy further denied allegations that it had entered into discussions or arrangements with third-party political groups over its administration or financial affairs.

It also rejected claims that it had received offers of financial assistance from such groups.

The mission urged the public to rely on official information when seeking clarification about its activities and operations.

For now, the embassy maintains that it remains open, while efforts continue to resolve the technical problems affecting some of its services.
