Foundation Delivers Free Eye Surgeries, Scholarships To Hundreds In Warri

THE AVM Terry Omatsola Okorodudu Foundation has provided free eye care services to more than 400 residents of Warri and nearby communities in Delta State. The programme was organised in partnership with the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation. It focused on improving access to quality eye care for vulnerable people.
The three-day outreach offered free eye screening. It also included cataract and glaucoma surgeries. Beneficiaries received prescription drugs and corrective eyeglasses at no cost. Residents from Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko and several other communities benefited from the intervention.
The programme was held in honour of the late Air Vice Marshal Terry Omatsola Okorodudu (Rtd.). Organisers said the outreach was designed to preserve his legacy of service and compassion. They described the initiative as a practical way of improving lives through healthcare.
Founder of the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation, Dr. Gabriel Mejuya Okorodudu, said the project was about restoring hope as much as restoring sight. He noted that many beneficiaries could not afford the cost of treatment. According to him, improved vision enables people to regain confidence, return to work and care for their families.
He appealed to corporate organisations, philanthropists and development partners to support similar medical programmes. He said stronger partnerships would help extend the outreach to more underserved communities across Nigeria.
The foundation also awarded scholarships to five deserving students during the event. Organisers said the gesture reflected their commitment to promoting education alongside healthcare.
Many beneficiaries expressed appreciation after successful treatment. Several described the outreach as life-changing. The foundation announced plans to make the programme an annual event while expanding its humanitarian and community development initiatives across the country.
