Education Is Power, Not A Scam — Asagba

HIS Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, the Asagba of Asaba, has reaffirmed his commitment to education as the bedrock of sustainable development. The revered monarch declared that education remains the most powerful tool for individual and societal advancement, insisting that “education is power, never a scam.”
Prof. Azinge made the remarks while receiving the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, and members of the board during a courtesy visit to the royal palace in Asaba.
The traditional ruler stressed the need for sustained investment in quality education. He described education as the foundation upon which prosperous and progressive societies are built. He urged governments, communities and stakeholders to continue prioritising learning as a critical driver of development.
Addressing the SUBEB chairman, the monarch expressed confidence in his ability to bring meaningful reforms to Delta State’s education sector. He encouraged Mariere to make a lasting impact through policies and programmes that would strengthen basic education across the state.
Prof. Azinge also disclosed that the Asaba community is constructing a modern primary school. He said the facility would be donated to the Delta State Government upon completion. According to him, the initiative reflects the community’s commitment to supporting basic education, which he described as the most important stage in every child’s academic journey.
The Asagba commended Mariere for facilitating the hosting of this year’s meeting of the 36 SUBEB chairmen in Asaba. He recalled his support for the establishment of three new universities during the previous administration and praised successive Delta State governments for maintaining investment in education.
The monarch also expressed optimism that plans for the proposed International Conference Centre in Asaba would soon materialise. He said discussions with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had strengthened his confidence that the project would provide the state with a world-class venue for conferences and major events.
Prof. Azinge assured the SUBEB chairman that he would honour the invitation to attend the conference of the 36 SUBEB chairmen.
Earlier, Hon. Samuel Mariere announced that Delta State had secured the hosting rights for the 2026 Conference of the 36 SUBEB Chairmen. He praised the Asagba for his consistent support for educational development, noting that the monarch has continued to complement government efforts to improve access to quality basic education in Asaba Kingdom.
Mariere concluded by inviting the monarch to formally grace the conference, scheduled to hold in Asaba from 10 to 13 August 2026.
