Edo Queens Touch Down In Burkina Faso For WAFU B Battle

By FRED LONGJOHN OBEH
NIGERIA Women’s Premier League champions, Edo Queens, have arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for the WAFU B qualifying tournament for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Edo-based side left Lagos on Thursday with 21 players and 12 officials. The team travelled through Lomé, Togo, before completing the journey to Ouagadougou.
Now, the Ada Bendel will turn their attention to the task ahead.
Edo Queens will compete in Group A alongside Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies, ASFC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
The Nigerian champions face a demanding route to the continental competition. However, they will hope their quality and experience can carry them through the regional qualifiers.
The team will also compete without substantive head coach Moses Aduku. Aduku is currently away on international duty with Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets.
As a result, Bendel Insurance manager Kennedy Boboye will take charge of the technical duties during the tournament.
Several key players will lead Edo Queens’ push for qualification. They include Mose Chioma, Atume Doosuur, Vera Doris and Uroko Valentina.
The WAFU B tournament will run from 23 August to 5 September 2026. At the end of the competition, the winners will secure a ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
For Edo Queens, the mission is clear: conquer the region and return to Africa’s biggest stage in women’s club football.
