Delta Residents Demand Action As Achalla-Ibusa Road Deteriorates Further

Community Voices Concern Over Infrastructure Delays
A group of youths and residents from Achalla-Ibusa, Delta State, on 30 April 2026, staged a peaceful protest at the Government House in Asaba, calling for urgent government action on the deteriorating condition of their major access road.
The protest was led by Comrade Lawrence Nwanze, who described the situation as a daily struggle for commuters and residents in the affected communities.
Road Condition Sparks Public Outcry
Protesters expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as slow progress on the Achalla-Ibusa road project, stating that parts of the road have become severely difficult to navigate.
They maintained that the poor condition has disrupted movement and negatively impacted local economic activities.
While recognising ongoing development efforts in the state, the group urged the government not to overlook the urgency of completing the road.
Appeal for Faster Construction Work
The demonstrators called on the state government to direct the contractor to intensify work, particularly along critical sections of the Ibusa axis.
They stressed that timely completion would ease transportation challenges and restore confidence among residents who rely on the road for daily activities.
Government Reassures Residents
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, addressed the protesters on behalf of the government, commending them for maintaining peace during the demonstration.
He assured them that the administration remains committed to completing the project and would not abandon it at any stage.
Steps Toward Road Improvement
Aniagwu stated that he had engaged the contractor and confirmed that construction activities are ongoing despite weather-related constraints.
He added that engineers would be directed to ensure the road remains passable while maintaining construction standards.
He also encouraged residents to use official government feedback platforms to report issues for quicker response.
Calm Resolution
The protest concluded peacefully, with residents acknowledging the government’s response and expressing hope that the assurances would lead to visible progress on the road project.
