Delta Opens Free EV Skills Workshop For Youths, Mechanics In Asaba, Warri

Training for a Changing Automotive Industry
THE Delta State Government has partnered with EV Automobiles Limited to launch a free practical skills acquisition workshop focused on electric vehicles and sustainable transportation.
The programme is designed to equip youths, artisans and automobile technicians with technical skills needed in the emerging electric-mobility sector.
The initiative followed a strategic meeting involving the Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, and the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Daniel Odinigwe Odigie.
Practical Skills at the Centre
Unlike a purely theoretical programme, the workshop will provide hands-on training in electric-vehicle maintenance and diagnostic operations.
Participants will also learn about career opportunities within the clean-energy automotive sector.
Members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association, as well as eligible youths, mechanics and technicians across Delta State, are expected to benefit from the programme.
Asaba & Warri Sessions
The training will take place in Asaba and Warri.
The Asaba session is scheduled for 2nd and 3rd October 2026, at the Press Center, Government House, Infant Jesus Road.
Meanwhile, the Warri session will hold on 6th and 7th October at Unity Hall, Government House Annex, Edjeba.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day.
The Delta State Directorate of Transport said online registration is already open. Participants can also register physically at the two training venues.
Preparing Technicians for Electric Mobility
As electric vehicles gradually gain attention within the global automotive industry, the skills required to maintain them are also changing.
For traditional automobile technicians, that transition creates a need for new technical knowledge, particularly in diagnostics, maintenance and emerging vehicle systems.
The Delta initiative seeks to provide an entry point into that changing sector by giving participants practical exposure to electric-mobility technology.
The government consequently encouraged eligible residents, especially young people and automotive technicians, to take advantage of the free programme and expand their technical capabilities.
