Delta Hospitals Board Begins Recruitment Drive for Medical Interns, House Officers
State Targets Fresh Medical Graduates for Internship Opportunities
THE Delta State Hospitals Management Board has commenced a fresh recruitment exercise for qualified medical and healthcare professionals seeking internship and housemanship placements across government health institutions in the state.
The exercise, announced through a public notice issued on 20 May 2026, is aimed at strengthening manpower capacity in the state’s health sector while providing practical training opportunities for newly qualified professionals.
According to the statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Board, Dr. Paul Okubor, applications are currently open for House Officers, Intern Pharmacists, Intern Medical Laboratory Scientists, and Intern Nurses.
The Board explained that the recruitment forms part of ongoing efforts to support professional development within the healthcare sector and improve service delivery across public hospitals in Delta State.
Positions Available and Required Qualifications
The notice outlined the categories of available positions and the qualifications expected from applicants.
For House Officers, candidates are required to possess either an MBBS or BDS degree from a recognised university, alongside evidence of registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Applicants seeking placement as Intern Pharmacists must possess either a Doctor of Pharmacy (D. Pharm) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree, with registration evidence from the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).
For Intern Medical Laboratory Scientists, the Board requested a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) degree as well as proof of registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
Intern Nurses are expected to possess a Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) degree and valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
Officials stressed that all credentials must come from recognised institutions and regulatory bodies.
Online Application Process Introduced
The Board directed interested candidates to complete their applications through the official recruitment portal of the agency: www.deltahmb.org
Applicants are expected to upload relevant credentials and provide accurate contact information during the registration process.
The Board added that only shortlisted candidates would proceed to the next stage of the exercise, which includes examinations and oral interviews.
According to the notice, shortlisted applicants would receive notifications through SMS messages containing details of screening schedules and venues.
Warning Against Recruitment Fraud
The Hospitals Management Board also cautioned prospective applicants against falling victim to fraudsters demanding money in exchange for employment opportunities.
It reiterated that the recruitment process is entirely free and urged candidates to disregard any individual or group requesting payment for placement or processing.
The Board advised applicants to rely only on official communication channels and recruitment information published by the agency.
Recruitment Seen as Boost for Healthcare System
The latest recruitment initiative is expected to provide opportunities for young professionals entering the healthcare sector while helping public hospitals address staffing needs.
Industry observers note that internship and housemanship programmes remain critical stages in the professional development of healthcare workers, especially in a period marked by rising demand for quality medical services and increasing migration of health professionals abroad.
The Board disclosed that the application window would remain open for two weeks from the publication date of the advertisement.
