Asaba Sanitation Committee, Waste Management Board Forge Alliance For Cleaner Capital Territory

Partnership Strengthens Push for Cleaner Asaba
THE Asaba Sanitation Committee (ASC) has secured the support of the Delta State Waste Management Board as both bodies move to strengthen efforts aimed at improving environmental sanitation and public health across the state capital.
The collaboration was formalised during a courtesy visit by the committee, led by its Chairman, Obi (Lt.) Chukwuemekalim Ajufoh, to the Acting Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon. Felix Ejovwoke Erhimedafe.
The meeting focused on establishing a framework for cooperation that would enhance waste management operations, sanitation enforcement and environmental awareness within Asaba and surrounding communities.
Waste Board Commends Compliance With Traditional Directive
During the engagement, Hon. Erhimedafe praised the committee for complying with the directive of the Asagba of Asaba regarding the reversal of a previously introduced ₦200 sanitation levy.
According to him, the decision demonstrated respect for constituted authority and underscored the committee’s commitment to working within established governance structures.
The Waste Management Board chairman noted that cooperation among traditional institutions, government agencies and community-based organisations remained critical to achieving sustainable environmental goals.
Recognition for ASC Task Force
The board also acknowledged the activities of the ASC Task Force, describing it as an important support mechanism in the ongoing campaign to maintain environmental cleanliness within the capital territory.
Erhimedafe stated that the task force had become a relevant stakeholder in sanitation management, complementing the efforts of the Waste Management Board and other agencies responsible for environmental regulation.
He stressed that community participation and grassroots mobilisation were essential components of effective waste management systems.
Training and Capacity Building on the Agenda
As part of the partnership, the Waste Management Board pledged to provide Environmental Health Officers and facilitators to support training programmes for ASC marshals.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the operational capacity of sanitation personnel and improve public engagement on issues relating to waste disposal, hygiene and environmental protection.
Both organisations also examined practical measures for improving coordination, monitoring sanitation activities and promoting cleaner neighbourhoods.
Commitment to Sustainable Environmental Management
The meeting ended with both parties expressing confidence that stronger collaboration would yield measurable improvements in environmental sanitation across Asaba.
Officials said the partnership aligns with broader efforts to create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable capital city, while encouraging greater public participation in environmental stewardship.
