AKWA Ibom State will hold elections into its 31 local government councils on 28 August 2027, following a timetable announced by the State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC).
The commission disclosed the date in an official Notice of Election dated 30 October 2026. It said voters would elect local government chairmen and councillors across the state.
As part of the preparations, AKISIEC directed political parties and other relevant stakeholders to submit nomination papers at its headquarters, located at 5 Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
The commission issued the notice under the provisions of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2026 and the Electoral Act 2026.
Furthermore, AKISIEC said it had circulated the notice across the state’s 31 local government areas and 369 ward headquarters to ensure wider public awareness of the scheduled exercise.
It also clarified that any run-off election required after the main poll would hold seven days later or as soon as practicable thereafter.
The commission’s secretary signed the notice on 30 October 2026, confirming 28 August 2027, as the scheduled date for the local government elections.
