Agwetiti Set For Modern Civic Hub As DESOPADEC Assesses Construction Progress

By UCHE OGBODO
THE Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has inspected the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern assembly hall and civic centre in Agweyom, Agwetiti Community, Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
Dr. Charles Olisa, the commission’s board member representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality, conducted the inspection on Tuesday 13 October 2026. The visit aimed to assess construction progress, structural quality and compliance with approved project specifications.
During the inspection, Olisa expressed satisfaction with the work completed so far. He said the construction followed the commission’s approved engineering specifications and Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME).
He also reassured community leaders and residents that DESOPADEC remained committed to completing and commissioning the facility. However, he did not announce a specific completion date.
According to Olisa, the inspection would help ensure that the contractor delivered the project in line with the commission’s requirements. He added that DESOPADEC intended to provide the community with a facility that met the approved standards.
Once completed, the civic centre is expected to accommodate community meetings, cultural events and civic activities. In addition, it could provide space for youth and women’s empowerment workshops.
Community leaders believe the facility could strengthen social ties, encourage participation in local affairs and stimulate commercial activities within the riverine community.
The project forms part of DESOPADEC’s broader responsibility to address infrastructure gaps and improve living conditions in oil-producing host communities across Delta State.
Nevertheless, its long-term impact will depend on timely completion, proper maintenance and effective community use. For Agwetiti residents, the centre represents a potential investment in community life and local development.
