“Midnight Horror In Kebbi: 25 Schoolgirls Abducted Despite Nearby Military Checkpoints”

By ABDUL AHMED (A.A.) RUFUS
AT least 25 schoolgirls were abducted in a midnight attack on Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The terrorists, identified locally as bandits, stormed the school early Monday, killing a teacher, Hassan Makuku, and a local guard known as Ali.
Residents said the attackers infiltrated the community from forests in neighbouring Zamfara and faced no resistance, even though two military checkpoints sit close to the school — one about seven kilometres away in Damarke, Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara, and another less than a kilometre from the school at Rabah junction, reportedly reinforced with an armoured personnel carrier.
A traditional ruler, who asked not to be named, confirmed that the attackers targeted one hostel and seized 25 boarding students.
Community leaders say the tragedy could have been prevented. According to them, intelligence reports had been shared earlier, prompting Governor Nasir Idris to direct soldiers stationed at Rabah junction to move to the school. The troops reportedly arrived but left around midnight — shortly before the terrorists struck.
As of press time, the police, military, and Kebbi State Government had not released any official statement on the attack.
