Mbemba’s Stoppage-Time Strike Knocks Cameroon Out Of 2026 World Cup Race

A late goal from Chancel Mbemba sent DR Congo past Cameroon 1–0 on Thursday, ending the Indomitable Lions’ hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mbemba turned in a corner in stoppage time to seal the win in a tense, rain-soaked semi-final of the African play-offs in Rabat. The result sends DR Congo into Sunday’s final against Nigeria for a spot in the intercontinental qualifiers.
Cameroon created chances but failed to convert, with goalkeeper Andre Onana and forward Bryan Mbeumo denied at key moments. The defeat adds pressure on head coach Marc Brys after an inconsistent qualification campaign.
DR Congo, seeking their first World Cup appearance since 1974, will face in-form Nigeria next, despite missing injured forward Yoane Wissa.
