Tompolo Makes First Public Appearance In 10 Years, Launches Delta State Security Trust Fund
FORMER Niger Delta freedom fighter, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, made his first major public appearance in over a decade on Thursday when he launched the Delta State Security Trust Fund at the Government House, Asaba.
The event, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, attracted top government officials, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from across Delta State.
The Delta State Security Trust Fund is one of the flagship initiatives of the Oborevwori administration. It aims to mobilize resources to strengthen security infrastructure, improve intelligence gathering, and enhance coordination among security agencies across the state.
Governor Oborevwori, in his remarks, described Tompolo’s appearance as a symbol of unity, partnership, and renewed commitment to peace and development in the Niger Delta. He said his administration would continue to work with all stakeholders to sustain peace, particularly in Delta’s riverine communities.
“Tompolo’s presence today sends a powerful message of solidarity and dedication to the peace and security of our state,” the governor stated.
Heads of security agencies and traditional rulers also commended the governor for establishing a lasting structure for security funding and coordination. They noted that the initiative would help improve response capacity and boost confidence among citizens and investors.
Tompolo, who has maintained a low profile for years, was warmly received by dignitaries and guests. Performing his role as Chief Launcher, he pledged his continued support for peace, unity, and economic growth in Delta State.
“Peace and progress go hand in hand. I will always support every genuine effort to sustain peace in our land,” Tompolo said, drawing applause from the audience.
His appearance marked a significant moment in Delta’s political and security landscape, generating wide public interest within and beyond the Niger Delta region.
