THE National Council of State has approved an increase in the Nigeria Police Trust Fund’s (NPTF) allocation from 0.5% to 1% of the Federation Account to ensure sustainable funding for police operations.
It also endorsed the repeal and re-enactment of the NPTF Act 2019, removing the six-year sunset clause to make the Fund permanent. Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, said the reform will guarantee continuous investment in training, equipment, welfare, and technology for the Nigeria Police Force.
The Council directed the Attorney-General to incorporate the changes into an executive bill for National Assembly consideration.
In the same meeting, the Council approved 959 recipients for the 2024 and 2025 National Honours Awards, including Bill Gates, recognised for his contributions to health and humanitarian causes in Nigeria.
Others include pro-democracy icons, the Ogoni Nine (posthumously), Uncle Sam Amuka-Pemu, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, and members of the Super Falcons and National Taekwondo Team for their achievements and service to the nation.
