Delta Assembly Commends Security Agencies, Urges Swift Action On Warri Crisis
THE Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) has commended security agencies across the state for their sustained efforts in tackling crime and maintaining peace.
Chairman of the House Committee on Peace and Security, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba.
Anwuzia noted that the commitment of security operatives had yielded significant results in curbing criminality. He, however, appealed for increased focus on resolving the brewing crisis between the Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic groups in Warri, stressing the need for early intervention to prevent escalation.
“This appeal has become necessary to nip the situation in the bud and safeguard the relative peace we currently enjoy in the state,” Anwuzia said.
The lawmaker, accompanied by committee members Hon. Charles Emetulu, Hon. Frank Esenwa, Hon. Emmanuel Sinibe, and Hon. Festus Utuama, also commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his proactive approach to security.
He cited the governor’s role in resolving the Okoloba–Okwuoma communal clash and the successful neutralization of kidnappers in Ogwashi-Uku forest as examples of decisive interventions.
Anwuzia further informed the Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Moronfolu Shonibare, and the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, of the recent passage of the Delta State Security Corps Agency Bill, which, when signed into law, would strengthen the state’s security architecture.
In their responses, Brig. Gen. Shonibare and CP Abaniwonda assured the lawmakers of their readiness to sustain efforts at ensuring that Delta remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
