Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, Delta Set For INEC Bye-Elections Saturday

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct bye-elections in five constituencies across four states on Saturday 19 September 2026.
The exercise will cover constituencies in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states.
INEC announced the polls through its official communication channels and called on voters in the affected areas to participate.
Gombe, Kano, Bauchi & Delta
In Gombe State, the election will hold in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency.
Kano State will conduct a poll in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency.
Two State House of Assembly constituencies — Sakwa and Disina — are affected in Bauchi State.
Delta State will hold its bye-election in the Udu State Constituency.
INEC’s official election portal lists the four states among those conducting the September 19 bye-elections.
Polls Open at 8:30am
According to INEC, voting will commence at 8:30am and end at 2:30pm in polling units across the affected constituencies.
The commission has encouraged eligible voters to turn out and participate in the exercise.
Its polling-unit information also allows voters to confirm their assigned locations ahead of election day.
Focus on Electoral Participation
The bye-elections provide voters in the affected constituencies with an opportunity to choose representatives for their respective legislative seats.
INEC has repeatedly emphasised the importance of voter participation and compliance with electoral procedures in its preparations for off-cycle and bye-elections.
The commission’s regulations cover general elections, bye-elections, re-run elections and supplementary elections under the Electoral Act 2026.
Delta’s Electoral Map Expands
The Delta election follows INEC’s August announcement restoring three additional State House of Assembly constituencies in the state.
They are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II.
Yagba West II in Kogi State was also restored.
Political parties subsequently conducted their primaries in the affected constituencies between August 21 and 25.
Udu Joins Saturday Poll
The Udu State Constituency is, however, among the five constituencies scheduled for the September 19 bye-election.
The exercise will therefore add another legislative contest to Nigeria’s electoral calendar as INEC continues preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The commission has urged voters in the affected areas to participate and use the established electoral channels.
For voters, the immediate priority is to confirm their polling units, arrive within the stipulated voting period and follow the procedures provided by INEC.
