Asagba Azinge Urges Stronger Work Ethics To Revive Delta Line

THE Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has blamed poor work ethics, weak commitment and a lack of ownership among employees for the decline of many government-owned commercial enterprises.
The monarch spoke when the Delta State chapter of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE, visited him in Asaba.
The delegation, led by the union’s State Chairman, Comrade Lawrence Otueroro, sought the monarch’s intervention in the declining fortunes of Delta Line, the state-owned transport company.
Responding to the appeal, Azinge said many government enterprises started with strong objectives but later struggled because workers failed to show the dedication needed to sustain them.
He urged employees to see themselves as stakeholders in the organisations where they work. According to him, workers should not treat government establishments as though nobody owns them.
The monarch compared government-owned transport businesses with private operators. He noted that private companies must maintain efficiency and profitability because their survival depends directly on performance.
Similarly, he argued that government could not continue investing public funds in commercial ventures where employees lacked the commitment to make them viable.
Azinge expressed reservations about whether Delta Line could return to its former status. Nevertheless, he assured the union that he would explore other ways to support improvements in transportation across Delta State.
Earlier, Otueroro praised the Asagba for his leadership and contributions to peace and development in Asaba.
He appealed to the monarch to support efforts to address the problems facing Delta Line. The union leader recalled that the company once competed successfully with private transport operators.
However, he said the transport company had suffered a serious decline over the years.
Otueroro urged the monarch to use his influence to encourage solutions to the challenges confronting Delta Line and help restore an efficient public transportation system in the state.
