Tuesday Declared Public Holiday As Muslims Celebrate Eid-Ul-Mawlid

THE Federal Government has declared Tuesday 25 August 2026 a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
The holiday will allow Muslim faithful across Nigeria to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, conveyed the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora on the occasion. He also urged them to use the celebration as a period of prayer for peace, unity and national cohesion.
According to the minister, Eid-ul-Mawlid offers Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on the values associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
He identified compassion, humility and service to humanity as virtues that remain important to Nigeria’s national development.
“Every Eid-ul-Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He added that Nigeria needs those values at a time when the country continues to pursue greater peace and social cohesion.
The minister, therefore, called on Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to embrace mutual respect, tolerance and a stronger sense of collective responsibility.
Meanwhile, he urged citizens to celebrate the occasion peacefully and with restraint.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to protecting lives and property across the country.
He said the Federal Government would continue to pursue measures aimed at strengthening peace and security.
The minister wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
