Asaba Stop-&-Search Operation Leads To Drug Recovery, Two Arrests

A routine police patrol in Asaba has led to the arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of 132 sachets of 100mg Tramadol.

Operatives attached to Operation Delta Shield carried out the stop-and-search operation on Thursday 13 August, along Kainebisi Road.

The patrol team stopped a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ZBL-549-XA.

Officers subsequently searched the vehicle and recovered the Tramadol sachets, the Delta State Police Command said.

The operation led to the arrest of Hillary Osondu, 54, and Abubakar Bello, also 54.

Police have taken both men into custody and commenced an investigation.

Authorities are yet to disclose the alleged supply chain behind the recovered drugs or whether investigators suspect the consignment was part of a wider distribution network.

However, the incident highlights the role of routine patrols and stop-and-search operations in intercepting suspected criminal activities before they spread further into communities.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the Operation Delta Shield team for the recovery and arrests.

He urged officers and men of the command to maintain the momentum through proactive policing and intelligence gathering.

The police chief also appealed to residents to support security agencies with useful information.

According to him, timely intelligence from members of the public can help operatives identify suspicious movements and prevent crime.

The command has again assured residents that it will continue to use available resources to strengthen crime prevention and detection across Delta State.

Meanwhile, investigators are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovery and determine the extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement.

The case remains under investigation.
