Egypt, Saudi Arabia Rally Diplomatic Efforts To Ease US-Iran Crisis

Regional Powers Seek Diplomatic Solution
AMID escalating military exchanges between the United States and Iran, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have renewed calls for restraint, urging all parties to embrace dialogue and prevent further deterioration of security across the Middle East.
The appeal followed a high-level telephone conversation between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, during which both leaders reviewed the rapidly evolving regional situation.
They agreed that preventing further escalation remains essential to preserving regional peace and international stability.
Concern Over Strategic Shipping Route
The ministers expressed particular concern over developments affecting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors through which a significant proportion of global oil exports passes.
According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, both countries stressed that freedom of navigation must be protected in line with international law, warning that any prolonged disruption could destabilise international energy supplies, increase shipping costs and negatively affect the global economy.
The officials noted that maritime security remains central to global trade and economic resilience.
Call to End Escalatory Actions
Egypt and Saudi Arabia also condemned recent attacks attributed to Iran against Gulf Arab states and Jordan, urging an immediate end to military actions capable of expanding the conflict beyond its current scope.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives designed to restore calm and reduce regional tensions before the crisis escalates further.
Diplomatic Coordination Continues
The discussions also covered ongoing mediation efforts involving a regional diplomatic group comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, which continues to explore avenues for de-escalation.
The latest diplomatic push follows a week of intensified hostilities in which the United States launched multiple strikes against Iranian targets, accusing Tehran of threatening maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran subsequently retaliated by attacking US military bases in neighbouring countries, deepening concerns that continued confrontation could threaten regional security, global energy supplies and international commerce.
