Asaba Planning Committee Applauds Compliance, Warns Defaulters

Asaba Town Planning Committee Commends Compliance, Intensifies Drive for Orderly Urban Development
Compliant Property Owners Receive Commendation
THE Chairman of the Asaba Town Planning Regulatory Committee, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka, has commended landlords and shop owners who have complied with the committee’s town planning regulations, describing their cooperation as a vital contribution to the ongoing effort to transform Asaba into a cleaner, more orderly and modern city.
Eluaka gave the commendation during the committee’s weekly sensitisation and monitoring exercise, which covered Umuezei, Umuonaje and Ugbomanta Quarters within Asaba Inland Town.
He noted that increasing compliance with planning regulations reflects growing public support for sustainable urban development and the preservation of the state capital’s physical environment.
Committee Highlights Importance of Planning Regulations
Speaking during the exercise, the chairman expressed appreciation to property owners who had removed illegal structures, maintained approved building setbacks and complied with established town planning guidelines.
According to him, adherence to planning regulations contributes significantly to improved public safety, environmental protection, ease of movement and the overall aesthetic development of the city.
He stressed that the regulations are intended to promote orderly physical development rather than serve as punitive measures against residents.
Residents Encouraged to Join Urban Renewal Efforts
Eluaka urged landlords, shop owners and other property owners who are yet to comply with the committee’s directives to do so promptly.
He encouraged residents to continue supporting the committee’s sensitisation campaign, noting that the success of the urban renewal initiative depends largely on collective community participation.
According to him, every resident has a responsibility to contribute to building a city that is well-planned, safe and attractive for present and future generations.
Committee Cites Case of Alleged Non-Compliance
During the monitoring exercise, the committee expressed concern over the alleged non-compliance of Ogbueshi Sunday Awana of Isieke Village, Ugbomanta Quarters.
Eluaka stated that the property owner had previously requested an extension of the standard one-week compliance period to enable preparations for his wife’s burial, a request that the committee approved.
He, however, alleged that despite the extension, the burial was conducted at the same location where the committee had earlier directed that a caravan obstructing the main road should be removed.
The chairman maintained that deliberate disregard for lawful directives would attract sanctions under the traditional laws governing the community, stressing that public interest must take precedence over individual actions that undermine urban planning objectives.
Commitment to Fair and Professional Enforcement
Reaffirming the committee’s commitment to fairness and professionalism, Eluaka said enforcement activities would continue alongside public enlightenment campaigns aimed at increasing voluntary compliance.
He expressed confidence that sustained cooperation between residents and the committee would accelerate efforts to position Asaba as a model city distinguished by orderly physical development, environmental cleanliness and effective urban planning.
