Seplat Ends Routine Gas Flaring, Deepens Investment In Nigeria’s LPG Market

Seplat Ends Routine Gas Flaring, Strengthens Commitment to Cleaner Energy
Company Records Major Environmental Milestone
SEPLAT Energy Plc has announced the successful elimination of routine gas flaring across all its onshore operations in Nigeria, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in its environmental sustainability agenda and contribution to cleaner energy development.
The announcement was made by the company’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, Mr. Samson Ezugworie, during an interactive session with journalists in Benin, where he outlined Seplat’s recent operational achievements and future energy transition strategy.
According to Ezugworie, the company successfully ended routine gas flaring across both its western and eastern onshore assets by the close of 2025, a development he described as remarkable within Nigeria’s petroleum industry and comparable with global environmental standards.
Investment in LPG Value Chain Gains Momentum
Beyond reducing emissions, Seplat said it is expanding investments in Nigeria’s Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sector to improve domestic access to cleaner cooking energy.
The company has established an LPG processing and distribution plant in Sapele, Delta State, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s clean cooking gas supply chain.
Ezugworie disclosed that the facility commenced commercial distribution earlier this year, with the first trucks conveying LPG cylinders departing the plant on April 20, 2026.
He explained that locating the facility within Seplat’s operational area reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting host communities while contributing to Nigeria’s energy security.
Supporting Nigeria’s Energy Transition
The Seplat executive noted that expanding LPG availability aligns with national efforts to encourage households to adopt cleaner cooking fuels and reduce dependence on traditional biomass and firewood.
He maintained that the company’s investments demonstrate its commitment to environmental responsibility while supporting broader national objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable energy use.
Integrity at the Centre of Corporate Strategy
Ezugworie attributed the company’s achievements to its corporate values, particularly its emphasis on integrity and accountability.
According to him, Seplat’s operational philosophy is anchored on ensuring that commitments made to stakeholders are consistently translated into measurable actions.
He said the elimination of routine gas flaring and continued investment in LPG infrastructure demonstrate the company’s resolve to align business operations with environmental stewardship, responsible energy production and sustainable development.
With the twin achievements of ending routine gas flaring and expanding LPG infrastructure, Seplat says it is positioning itself as a key player in Nigeria’s ongoing transition toward cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions.
