Preventive Maintenance To Disrupt Electricity Supply In Abuja Districts

TCN Announces Planned Maintenance at Katampe Transmission Substation
THE Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a scheduled seven-hour power outage affecting several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as it undertakes preventive maintenance on critical transmission infrastructure.
According to the company, the maintenance exercise will take place on Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Katampe 132/33 Kilovolt (kV) Transmission Substation, one of Abuja’s key electricity transmission facilities.
TCN said the planned shutdown forms part of its routine asset management programme aimed at maintaining the reliability, safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s national electricity transmission network.
Critical Equipment to Undergo Preventive Servicing
In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, explained that engineers would carry out preventive maintenance on the 100 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1).
The exercise will also involve servicing auxiliary equipment and associated switchgear connected to the transformer to ensure the continued stability of electricity transmission from the substation.
She noted that routine maintenance is necessary to reduce the likelihood of equipment failures, improve operational efficiency and extend the lifespan of critical power infrastructure.
Several Abuja Districts to Experience Temporary Blackout
As a result of the maintenance work, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will temporarily be unable to receive bulk electricity from the Katampe Transmission Substation for onward distribution to customers.
The affected locations include:
- Mpape
- Maitama
- Jahi
- Life Camp
- Kado Fish Market
- Idu-Karmo
- Surrounding communities
Residents and businesses within these areas are expected to experience interruptions in electricity supply throughout the maintenance period.
TCN Appeals for Public Understanding
TCN expressed regret over the temporary disruption and appealed to electricity consumers to bear with the inconvenience.
The company emphasised that preventive maintenance remains an essential component of electricity infrastructure management, helping to minimise unexpected equipment failures and improve long-term reliability of power supply.
The utility assured customers that electricity supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed and all necessary operational checks have been carried out.
