Police Commissioner Begins Operational Tour
THE Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has commenced a familiarisation tour of Area Commands across the state, beginning with a strategic visit to the Asaba Area Command aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and enhancing collaboration between the police and local communities.
The visit formed part of efforts by the new police leadership to assess policing operations, engage key stakeholders and reinforce strategies for improving security across Delta State.
Stakeholders Pledge Support for Security
The engagement brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), representatives of human rights organisations, sister security agencies, vigilante groups, anti-cult volunteers and other stakeholders.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to working with the police to improve public safety and support crime prevention efforts within the Asaba Area Command and the wider state.
The meeting highlighted the growing emphasis on community participation as an essential component of modern policing.
CP Emphasises Intelligence-Led Policing
Addressing stakeholders, CP Oyeniyi stressed that effective policing depends on strong partnerships built on mutual trust, timely intelligence sharing and sustained cooperation between security agencies and the public.
He reaffirmed the Delta State Police Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, professionalism, adherence to the rule of law and the protection of the fundamental rights of all citizens.
The commissioner also encouraged residents to provide credible information capable of assisting security agencies in preventing and combating crime.
Warning Against Misinformation and Misconduct
The police chief urged members of the public to use social media responsibly, cautioning against the spread of misinformation capable of undermining security operations or creating unnecessary public anxiety.
He equally reminded police personnel of the Force’s social media policy, directing officers to comply strictly with established communication guidelines.
Speaking to officers and men of the Asaba Area Command, CP Oyeniyi warned against corruption, extortion and other forms of professional misconduct.
He urged personnel to remain disciplined, accountable and courteous while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.
Strengthening Public Confidence
The commissioner said the familiarisation tour is expected to improve operational coordination, deepen police-community relations and enhance the quality of policing services throughout Delta State.
