‘She Fights, She Wins’ Takes Centre Stage At Lagos Women’s Boxing Event

Lagos Hosts First Kehinde Obareh Female Boxing Tournament
A New Platform for Women’s Boxing
FEMALE boxing is set for a significant boost in Nigeria as Lagos hosts the first edition of the Kehinde Joy Obareh Female Boxing Show, featuring 24 fighters from clubs across the country.
The tournament will be held on Sunday at the Brai Ayonote Gym, National Stadium, Surulere, with organisers expecting a strong turnout of sports fans and supporters of women’s boxing.
Designed as both a competition and a development initiative, the event seeks to promote female participation in boxing while offering greater exposure to emerging athletes.
Empowerment Through Sport
The competition carries the theme ‘She Fights, She Wins’, reflecting its focus on empowerment, opportunity and visibility for women in combat sports.
Organisers say the project aims to give back to the community, provide hope for less-privileged female boxers and help position women’s boxing more prominently within Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
The card will feature fighters from several clubs, including Crown Boxing Club, LASU Boxing Club, Owonikoko Boxing Club, Aso Rock Boxing Club, Always Boxing Club and others.
Rising Talents in Action
Fans will have the opportunity to watch a wide range of emerging talents, among them Ajayi Nimotallah, Adeshina Aishat, Adegboega Princess, Ismail Abibat, Oluwafemi Oluwanifemi, Ejeh Peculliar, Adebisi Adenike and Oinkansola Kehinde.
The organisers believe the event will provide valuable competitive experience for the athletes while helping to build a stronger pipeline of female boxing talent in Nigeria.
Celebrating Kehinde Joy Obareh
The show also celebrates the achievements of Kehinde Joy Obareh, whose career has spanned more than 100 bouts in boxing and kickboxing.
Having represented Nigeria at numerous national and international events, Obareh has earned multiple medals and recognitions during her career.
Her recent completion of advanced coaching programmes in the United States marks another milestone in a journey that organisers hope will inspire the next generation of Nigerian female boxers.
With competition scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., the inaugural tournament is expected to be both a showcase of talent and a statement about the growing future of women’s boxing in Nigeria.
