Governor Leads Final Tribute
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday led government officials, political leaders and mourners in paying their final respects to the late Mr. Sunday Kotor, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, during his funeral service in Okwagbe Waterside, Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Kotor, who died on 20 March 2026 at the age of 63, was laid to rest after a funeral service held at the open grounds of Okwagbe Secondary School. The ceremony attracted a large gathering of family members, friends, political associates and members of the public who came to celebrate his life and years of public service.
The event reflected the esteem in which the late protocol officer was held, particularly for his contributions to government and his longstanding commitment to public duty.
Dignitaries Join in Paying Last Respects
Among those present were the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive; commissioners, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, senior government officials and other political leaders.
Their presence underscored the respect Kotor commanded during his years in public service and highlighted the close relationships he built across different levels of government.
Many attendees described him as a dependable public servant whose professionalism and humility earned him the confidence of successive administrations.
Cleric Urges Purposeful Living
Delivering the sermon titled “Making Use of Opportunities,” Rev. Dr. Ambrose Akpotor described the deceased as a man who embraced every opportunity to serve with diligence, integrity and commitment.
The cleric said Kotor’s life demonstrated that meaningful service and faithful stewardship leave enduring legacies beyond material achievements.
He encouraged the congregation to emulate the late public servant by living lives defined by purpose, dedication and unwavering faith, reminding them that opportunities should always be used to positively impact society.
Family Encouraged to Uphold His Legacy
Special prayers were offered for the Kotor family, with the officiating minister urging them to draw strength from the exemplary life their patriarch lived.
He noted that although his passing created a significant void, his legacy of loyalty, discipline and selfless service would remain a lasting source of inspiration to colleagues, family members and the wider community.
For many who attended the funeral, the ceremony was not only a farewell but also a celebration of a public servant remembered for carrying out his responsibilities with quiet dedication and professionalism.
