Oborevwori Throws Delta Open To RMFAC Verification Exercise
Delta Reaffirms Commitment to Accountability
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources as officials of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) commenced a nationwide data verification exercise in the state.
The governor gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the commission led by Mohammed Kabir Usman and Delta State’s Federal Commissioner in RMFAC, Aruviere Martins Egharhevwa, at Government House, Asaba.
According to Oborevwori, the state government has continued to channel significant resources into critical sectors, including healthcare, education, roads and other social infrastructure, all of which are available for physical inspection and verification.
Investments Across Delta Under Scrutiny
Highlighting ongoing development efforts, the governor said projects are spread across all 25 local government areas of the state and have contributed to improvements in key development indicators.
He noted that hospitals, schools, roads and other public facilities built under his administration are visible evidence of government spending and should form part of the commission’s assessment.
Oborevwori stressed that transparency requires more than documentation, urging the verification team to inspect projects directly and compare records with realities on the ground.
“We are not just talking about these projects; they are there to be seen and verified,” the governor said.
State Assures Full Cooperation
The governor disclosed that local government chairmen, ministries, departments and agencies had already been briefed and directed to make relevant records available to the verification team.
According to him, the state is fully prepared to provide all information necessary for the exercise and expects a fair assessment based on verifiable facts.
Oborevwori emphasized that Delta was not seeking special treatment but rather an objective evaluation that accurately reflects its contributions to national revenue and developmental achievements.
He urged the commission to ensure that all findings are based on evidence gathered through direct inspection rather than secondary reports.
RMFAC Explains Purpose of Exercise
Earlier, RMFAC Team Leader Mohammed Kabir Usman explained that the nationwide exercise forms part of efforts to update and validate data used in determining revenue allocation among states and local governments.
He noted that the commission’s constitutional responsibility includes periodic reviews of revenue-sharing formulas to reflect changing demographic, economic and infrastructural realities across the federation.
According to him, accurate data remains critical to ensuring equitable distribution of national resources.
Usman added that officials would collaborate with state ministries, agencies and local government authorities to obtain credible information capable of supporting future fiscal decisions.
Verification Expected to Shape Future Allocations
The RMFAC official said the outcome of the exercise could significantly influence future revenue allocation considerations and therefore requires accurate and comprehensive data collection.
He revealed that the commission had previously trained state and local government officials on data management while also introducing digital systems aimed at improving efficiency and reducing errors.
Usman commended the Delta State Government for ongoing infrastructure development, citing urban renewal initiatives, flyover projects and healthcare investments as visible indicators of progress.
He assured stakeholders that the exercise would be conducted professionally, transparently and in line with established best practices.
