Delta Police Record Major Breakthroughs in Fight Against Crime
Kidnap Victim Rescued Without Ransom Payment
THE Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of operational successes in its ongoing campaign against kidnapping, armed robbery and drug-related crimes, leading to the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of suspected criminal elements and the recovery of weapons and illicit substances.
The command disclosed that operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKU) successfully rescued a male victim who had been abducted in Okpanam.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the victim was kidnapped on June 10, while intelligence regarding the incident reached the command the following day.
Acting swiftly, police operatives launched an intelligence-driven operation aimed at locating the victim and dismantling the kidnappers’ network.
As security pressure intensified through coordinated surveillance and intelligence gathering, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned the victim and fled their hideout.
The victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed and reunited with his family without the payment of ransom.
Police authorities said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Three Suspects Arrested, Firearm Recovered
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Distress 01 Patrol Team intercepted a tricycle during routine patrol operations in Asaba.
The patrol team stopped the vehicle around midday on June 12 and conducted a search on its occupants.
During the search, operatives recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol.
The suspects were identified as Ewendeze De-Grace, 19; Eruweghene Amede, 20; and Chukwuemeka Arinze, 21.
All three suspects were arrested and taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations, according to police authorities, indicate that the suspects are believed to be members of the Aro Bagger Confraternity.
The recovered firearm has been retained as evidence while investigations continue.
Drug Distribution Point Raided in Kwale
The command also reported progress in its campaign against illicit drug activities.
Acting on intelligence reports, operatives attached to the Kwale Division raided a suspected drug distribution centre in Kwale.
Police said two male suspects fled the scene upon sighting officers, while a female suspect identified as Ananyi Vivian, 45, was arrested.
Investigators subsequently discovered that the premises had allegedly been used for drug-related activities.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted knowledge of the illegal activities taking place at the location.
Authorities said investigations are continuing as efforts intensify to apprehend other suspects connected to the operation.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and commitment.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to combat all forms of criminality across the state and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
