Delta ADC Unveils Unuafe, Promises New Political Direction

Consensus Primary Produces New ADC Flagbearer in Delta
THE African Democratic Congress (ADC) has produced Dr. Emmanuel Usivwoghene Unuafe as its governorship candidate for Delta State ahead of the 2027 election, following a consensus primary election held in Asaba.
The exercise, conducted at the party’s state secretariat, was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), media organisations and civil society groups.
Dr. Unuafe, a United Kingdom-based lecturer at Arden University, emerged after other aspirants reportedly withdrew from the race in support of his candidacy.
Party leaders said the consensus arrangement reflected unity within the ADC and demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy and peaceful political engagement.
In his acceptance address, the governorship candidate pledged to pursue policies aimed at transforming Delta State through industrial revival, youth empowerment, agriculture, education and technology-driven governance.
Unuafe Promises Economic Diversification
The ADC candidate stressed the need for Delta State to reduce its dependence on oil and gas revenues by investing in productive sectors of the economy.
He outlined plans to promote agriculture through improved road infrastructure, preservation systems for farm produce and policies designed to attract local and foreign investors.
Dr. Unuafe expressed concern over the collapse of industries that once provided employment and economic opportunities within the state.
According to him, Delta State possesses enormous human and natural resources that remain underutilised despite its economic potential.
“We have capable youths with enormous human capital, yet we are not harnessing their potential,” he stated.
The governorship hopeful said his administration would prioritise job creation, support entrepreneurship and encourage innovation among young people.
Plans for Digital Governance and Public Sector Reform
Dr. Unuafe also pledged to modernise public administration through large-scale digitisation of government activities.
According to him, digitising government processes would reduce corruption, improve transparency and strengthen service delivery across ministries and agencies.
He further promised reforms aimed at improving workers’ welfare and providing conducive working environments for civil servants.
The ADC candidate criticised the condition of some public institutions and called for responsible management of public resources.
In the education sector, he promised to improve internet connectivity in schools, strengthen technical education and invest in teacher development programmes.
On healthcare, he pledged to revitalise primary healthcare centres across all wards in the state to improve access to quality medical services.
Party Leaders Speak on ADC’s Future
Speaking after the primary election, Delta State ADC Chairman, Engr. Austin Okolie, described Dr Unuafe’s emergence as a major milestone for the party.
According to him, the ADC was positioning itself as a credible political alternative capable of delivering transparent and people-oriented governance in Delta State.
“This is the beginning of a new vision for Delta State,” Okolie said.
Also speaking, Chairman of the ADC Primary Screening and Electoral Committee, Hon. Jerry Ojiale, said the party’s screening process encouraged consensus and unity among aspirants.
Ojiale maintained that the ADC in Delta State remained united under one recognised leadership structure and dismissed speculation about internal divisions.
The primary election concluded with party members expressing optimism that the ADC would emerge as a stronger political force ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Delta State.
