Ibusa Clerics Demand Justice Over Murder Of Bishop James

Shock and Grief Trail Killing of Prominent Cleric in Delta
RELIGIOUIS leaders in Ibusa, a community in Ibusa, have expressed deep anguish following the killing of Bishop Chinedu Clarence James, describing the incident as a devastating blow not only to the Christian community but also to the wider society.
The late cleric, who served as Deputy Chairman of the Ibusa Indigenous Ministers Association (IIMA), was reportedly murdered on 12 May 2026, in circumstances that have triggered widespread concern over security in the area.
Ministers Mourn “Father Figure” and Spiritual Leader
In a statement jointly signed by Chairman Rev. Emmanuel Daniels and Secretary Pastor Ike Nwanze, the association paid glowing tribute to the late bishop, portraying him as a devoted servant of God and a pillar of spiritual guidance.
According to the clerics, Bishop James was widely respected for his commitment to the Gospel and his role as a mentor to many within and beyond the church community.
“We mourn the departure of a man of great passion for the Kingdom, a father to many,” the statement read, capturing the depth of loss felt among colleagues and followers.
Call for Thorough Investigation Gains Momentum
While acknowledging reports that some suspects have been arrested, the ministers stressed that justice must go beyond initial detentions, urging security agencies to ensure a comprehensive and transparent investigation.
They emphasized the need for speed and diligence, warning that failure to fully resolve the case could undermine public confidence in law enforcement.
“The arrest of suspects is encouraging, but this must be followed by a thorough and speedy investigation. Let justice be fully served,” the association stated.
Renewed Concerns Over Community Security
The killing has reignited concerns about safety in Ibusa and surrounding communities, with residents reportedly unsettled by the nature of the attack.
Stakeholders say the incident underscores the need for strengthened intelligence gathering, improved policing, and greater collaboration between community leaders and security agencies.
Analysts note that attacks targeting religious figures often carry broader social implications, as they can heighten fear and disrupt community cohesion.
Support for Bereaved Family
The association also extended condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late bishop, pledging continued prayers and support during the mourning period.
Clerics urged members of the public to remain calm while allowing authorities to carry out their investigations, even as they called for justice to be pursued without compromise.
