Oborevwori Reassigns Commissioners After Cabinet Resignations Ahead Of 2027

Oborevwori Orders Interim Supervision of Key Ministries
DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a temporary reassignment of portfolios following the resignation of two commissioners seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor directed the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua, to oversee the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development pending further directives from the state government.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, was assigned additional responsibility to supervise the Ministry of Youth Development with immediate effect.
Resignations Linked to 2027 Political Ambitions
The development followed the resignation of the former Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development, Ms Orode Uduaghan, and the former Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Harry Trakiriowei.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu.
According to the statement, both former commissioners resigned their appointments to pursue political ambitions ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Aniagwu disclosed that the two former cabinet members are preparing to contest seats in the Delta State House of Assembly during the 2027 elections.
Maintaining Administrative Continuity
Political observers say the swift reassignment reflects the administration’s effort to avoid disruptions in governance and ensure continuity in ministries handling social welfare, humanitarian services, youth engagement, and gender-related programmes.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development plays a central role in coordinating intervention programmes for vulnerable groups, while the Ministry of Youth Development oversees youth empowerment initiatives, skills acquisition programmes, and government engagement with young people across the state.
Analysts note that transitional arrangements of this nature are common within state administrations whenever political office holders resign to seek elective offices.
Early Signals of 2027 Political Realignments
The resignations are also being viewed as an early indication of growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections in Delta State.
Across several states, appointees are beginning to reposition themselves for legislative and executive contests as political consultations intensify within major parties.
Observers say the movement of cabinet members into legislative contests reflects the strategic importance of state assemblies in local political structures, governance influence, and succession planning.
The decision by the outgoing commissioners to contest assembly seats may also signal broader political calculations within Delta’s evolving power dynamics ahead of the next election cycle.
Governor Commends Former Commissioners
Governor Oborevwori, according to the statement, expressed appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for what he described as their patriotic service to the state.
He wished them success in their future political pursuits and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining effective governance across all ministries and agencies.
The state government added that the supervisory arrangements would remain in effect pending further announcements.
