Malawi Boost Squad With Europe-Based Duo Ahead Of Falconets Clash

Malawi Reinforce Squad for Falconets Showdown
MALAWI’S women’s U-20 national team has received a major boost ahead of Saturday’s decisive FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, with head coach Maggie Chombo calling up two Europe-based players for the crucial encounter.
The second-leg fixture will take place at the Bingu National Stadium, where the Malawians will attempt to overturn a 2-0 deficit suffered in the first leg against Nigeria’s Falconets in Ikenne.
Among the players drafted into the squad is highly rated midfielder Faith Chinzimu, who currently plays for Swedish club BK Häcken FF. The 19-year-old is regarded as one of Malawi’s brightest young talents and recently celebrated success with her club during the 2025/26 women’s European campaign.
Also joining the squad is defender Rose Kabzere, who features for French side Montpellier HSC Féminines.
Nigeria Hold Advantage
Despite Malawi’s reinforcement, Nigeria remain favourites heading into the encounter after securing a comfortable first-leg victory at the Remo Stars Stadium.
The Falconets displayed dominance during the opening tie and are now well-positioned to qualify for another FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup appearance.
Malawi, however, are hoping home support and the inclusion of experienced foreign-based players can inspire a comeback and help the team secure a historic qualification for the tournament for the first time.
Coach Maggie Chombo is expected to rely heavily on the technical ability and international exposure of the Europe-based duo as the hosts seek to challenge the seven-time African champions.
