Ughelli Council Brokers Peace In Transcorp–Ekrerhavwe Dispute

Council Steps in to Defuse Tension
THE Ughelli North Local Government Council has successfully intervened in a prolonged dispute between Transcorp Power Plc and the Ekrerhavwe Community in Delta State, bringing both parties to an agreement after months of disagreement.
The intervention was led by Council Chairman Jaro Egbo through the Ughelli North Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, which convened a meeting to address the issues at stake.
Core Issues Behind the Dispute
The disagreement reportedly stemmed from allegations by the Ekrerhavwe Community over lack of formal recognition and unpaid community entitlements linked to Transcorp’s operations in the area.
The matter had generated tension, prompting calls for government intervention to prevent escalation.
Key Agreements Reached
Following deliberations at the council chairman’s office, the community was formally recognised as an autonomous entity, marking a major step in resolving the dispute.
The council also directed Transcorp Power Plc to immediately settle all outstanding obligations owed to the community.
Commitment to Compliance
Both parties agreed to reconvene within one month to review progress and ensure full implementation of the resolutions reached.
Representatives of Transcorp Power Plc at the meeting reportedly expressed willingness to comply fully with the agreement.
