Royal Visit Rekindles Historic Ties Between Asaba and Warri Kingdoms
Warm Reception at Asagba Palace
THE Asagba of Asaba, Epiphany Azinge, has praised the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, for sustaining and reviving the long-standing relationship between their kingdoms.
The commendation came during a courtesy visit by the Olu of Warri to the Asagba Palace in Asaba, where both monarchs reflected on the historic bond shared by their predecessors.
Azinge specifically referenced the cordial relationship between the late Olu of Warri, Olu Atuwatse II, and the 13th Asagba of Asaba, Joseph Chike Edozien, noting that the legacy continues to shape inter-kingdom relations.

Speaking during the visit, the Asagba expressed delight at hosting the Warri monarch, describing him as a “leading light” among traditional rulers.
He urged both kingdoms to deepen collaboration and work towards internationalising their cultural ties, particularly within the West African sub-region.
The monarch also revealed his recent diplomatic engagement in Sierra Leone, where discussions centred on promoting cultural exchange and unity among African traditional institutions.
He noted that plans were underway for a regional conference of traditional rulers, expected to bring together monarchs across West Africa.
Traditional Leaders as Partners in Development
The Asagba emphasized the importance of traditional rulers complementing government efforts in fostering peace, unity, and development.
He urged monarchs to leave enduring legacies that would positively impact their people and strengthen national cohesion.
