632,788 Candidates Receive 2026 UTME Results As JAMB Cracks Down On Fraud

First Batch of UTME Results Released
THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the first batch of results for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), making scores available to candidates who sat for the exam on its opening day.
According to the examination body, a total of 632,788 candidates who participated on 16 April can now access their results, marking one of the fastest result-processing timelines in recent years.
Candidates are required to check their results via SMS by sending “UTMERESULT” to designated short-codes using the same phone number used during registration.
How Candidates Can Access Their Scores
JAMB explained that, for now, candidates can only view their results, as the printing of official result slips will be enabled later.
The board urged candidates to rely strictly on official channels, warning against the use of third-party platforms or unofficial methods that may compromise result integrity.
The UTME, a central requirement for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, remains one of the most critical examinations in the country’s education system.
Strong Warning Against Result Manipulation
Alongside the release, JAMB issued a stern warning against any attempt to manipulate or falsify examination results.
The board described such actions as serious criminal offences, stressing that it has already begun enforcement actions against offenders.
Authorities disclosed that two candidates and one parent are currently in custody for allegedly attempting to alter results using artificial intelligence and other electronic methods.
Candidates were cautioned not to tamper with SMS messages or misrepresent their scores to parents, schools, or the public.
Exam Still Ongoing Nationwide
JAMB noted that the UTME exercise is still ongoing across various accredited centres nationwide and is expected to continue until 22 April.
As marking and processing continue, more results will be released in batches, with candidates advised to remain patient if their scores are not yet available.
The board reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness, stating that safeguarding the credibility of the examination process remains a top priority.
Pressure, Integrity, and the Stakes
Education analysts say the release of UTME results often comes with intense pressure on candidates, given its role in determining admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The emergence of result manipulation attempts highlights growing concerns about examination fraud in the digital age, particularly with the use of emerging technologies.
JAMB’s early enforcement actions, observers say, signal a stricter approach to maintaining integrity within Nigeria’s admission system.
