INEC Records 3.44 Million New Voter Registrations In Ongoing CVR Exercise

Massive Turnout in Ongoing CVR Exercise
THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has recorded 3,441,121 completed voter registrations in the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, reflecting sustained nationwide participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the commission’s Week 13 update, the figure combines online pre-registrations and physical enrolments captured across the country as of 3 April. Of the total, 2,068,384 citizens completed registration online, while 1,372,737 opted for in-person registration at designated centres.
State Participation and Demographic Trends
The data shows Jigawa State leading with 201,047 registrations, representing 5.84 per cent of the total. It is followed by Lagos with 181,095, while Kano ranks third with 177,681 registrants.
INEC also reported strong youth participation, with citizens aged 18 to 34 accounting for 2,354,768 registrations, representing 68.43 per cent of the total. Women similarly dominated the process, making up 1,922,143 registrants (55.86 per cent) compared to 1,518,978 male registrants.
In terms of occupation, students emerged as the largest group, with 1,235,931 registrations (35.92 per cent). They were followed by those engaged in business (701,912) and farming or fishing (615,967). Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) accounted for 48,330 registrations.
Data Still Subject to Verification
INEC clarified that the 3.44 million figure remains preliminary, pending data clean-up through claims and objections as well as verification using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).
The commission also reiterated that registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains suspended in line with the Electoral Act 2022, following the Area Council elections held in February.
INEC further noted that the ongoing CVR exercise builds on an earlier phase, which recorded 2,685,725 registrations, with similar demographic patterns showing strong youth and female participation.
